AJMA’s mission is to be a safe enriching, community with a unified voice for Jewish healthcare professionals across the United States. We advocate to address contemporary issues affecting our members and society, including recently rising incidents of antisemitism and anti-Zionism that impact the workplace and patient care.
Using our unified voice and as just one part of our advocacy work, AJMA sent a strong letter, co-signed with StandWithUs, to law enforcement and New York State government officials asking that the DA prosecute, to the full extent of the law, the suspects who terrorized Jewish passengers on the NYC Subway System on June 10, particularly given that one suspect (who had just turned himself in) had been identified as a lab technician at Weill Cornell Medicine, working within our midst. This letter was a carefully coordinated effort, with vetting and support from our legal and PR teams, and approved by the StandWithUs legal department.
This is just one example of how the AJMA supports Jewish healthcare professionals and trainees and does everything possible to end antisemitism in medicine.
Not surprisingly, this caught media attention and Dr. Yael Halaas, president and founder of AJMA, was interviewed by several media outlets. We are proud of our work and invite you to share this news with your personal and professional networks – whether on social media or otherwise.
We are proud to take a strong stand to protect the Jewish medical and patient community and to partner with other Jewish organizations on this work.
Michelle Stravitz,
Executive Director of AJMA
