Attendance is free for students/residents/trainees, $18 for AJMA members, $36 for other healthcare professionals. RSVP in advance is required and registration cost is non-refundable.

Speakers

Sheila Nazarian MD,MMM, Plastic Surgeon. Dr. Sheila Nazarian, founder of Nazarian Plastic Surgery, is a top board-certified plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills. She is also founder of The Skin Spot, a curated collection of medical-grade skincare and wellness products. Dr. Nazarian starred in the popular Emmy-nominated Netflix original series, "Skin Decision" and has appeared on E! News, Newsweek, "The Doctors," PragerU, Inside Edition, Newsmax, and "The Real." As an Iranian immigrant, she built her business from the ground up and inspires other entrepreneurs to do the same through The Nazarian Institute, a conference to help other entrepreneurs to ThinkBIG!: Branding, Innovation and Growth. She has a large social media following, with more than 1.7 million followers on her Instagram, YouTube, Twitter accounts including @drsheilanazarian, @themodelsurgeon, @spa26, @nazarianskin and @theskinspot. Dr. Nazarian, who also serves as teaching professor in the Division of Plastic Surgery at the University of Southern California, is married to Dr. Fardad Mobin, a neurosurgeon. Together, they have three beautiful children and an adorable rescue dog.

Katie Hulbert, MD, Psychiatrist. Dr. Katie Hulbert is a psychiatrist with experience providing treatment to those with mild concerns to the most severe of mental illness. With this experience, she has gained the knowledge, insight, and intuition needed to care for every patient’s individual needs. In 2005, Dr. Hulbert graduated Cum Laude with High Honors from Brandeis University in Waltham, MA with a B.A. in Philosophy and a focus on Pre-Medical studies. In 2009, she received her Medical Degree from The Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, CA. With both a humanities and science background, Dr. Hulbert has skills needed to treat patient based on the bio-psycho-social model of medical care. After medical school, Dr. Hulbert completed her psychiatric residency at Harbor UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA. She went on to focus on emergency psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry, and outpatient tele-psychiatry. She is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Alan L. Nager MD, MHA, Director, Emergency and Transport Medicine. Dr. Alan L. Nager is Division Director of Emergency and Transport Medicine at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. He is a Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California. Dr. Nager has lectured extensively on a variety of emergency medicine topics. In addition, he has appeared numerous times in the media, published extensively on such topics as dehydration, trauma, mental health, and disaster preparedness. His current research pursuits include anxiety reduction, self-instruction of CPR for waiting patients, ethics of termination of resuscitations, and antibiotic administration for cancer patients. Dr. Nager has published two children’s books entitled “Angels in Action” and “Sleep Tight Hoopy Doopy". When Dr. Nager is not working (which is rare), he likes to travel, exercise, and eat kosher food!

Yael Halaas MD, Facial Plastic Surgeon. Dr. Halaas is double board-certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology and the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. In addition, she is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). Dr. Halaas is specialized in facelifts, rhinoplasty (nose job surgery), blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), and in the evaluation and treatment of hair loss in women and men. She is the daughter of Cuban and Argentine Jews who fled persecution generations earlier in Eastern Europe. Her commitment to the Jewish People in the aftermath of October 7th led her to found the American Jewish Medical Association for which she serves as President. At the same time, Dr. Halaas created the Global Jewish Healthcare Alliance to connect the international Jewish medical societies together and with the Israeli Medical Association. Dr. Halaas was also instrumental in the formation of the Jewish medical associations in Mexico, Brasil and Argentina. Dr. Halaas is also an active member of the Columbia Jewish Alumni Alliance and President of the American Friends of Widows and Orphans of the IDF.

Kira Stein MD, Psychiatrist. Dr. Kira Stein is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine. Dr. Stein is the founder of the Jewish Faculty Resilience Group (JFrg). A longtime UCLA faculty member and reproductive psychiatrist, Dr. Stein launched JFrg in the wake of October 7th to defend Jewish civil rights and confront rising antisemitism on campus. Over the past year-and-a-half, JFrg has become a respected model for Jewish faculty & academic staff advocacy, offering legal, emotional, and strategic support to Jewish faculty, staff, and postdocs at UCLA. The group has established a robust Antisemitism Incident Reporting (AIR) system, facilitated vital support services for impacted community members, and organized programming to reclaim space for Jewish identity, civil discourse, and academic freedom. While JFrg has been a UCLA-based initiative, faculty from universities across the country have sought its guidance in building their own advocacy groups. Plans are underway to expand JFrg’s model and impact beyond UCLA through grassroots-based coalition-building and coordinated action. JFrg collaborates with a range of local and national partners, including StandWithUs, the Brandeis Law Center, the Jewish Federation, Hillel at UCLA, and the Academic Engagement Network (AEN). Its medical division also serves as a chapter of the American Jewish Medical Association (AJMA), reflecting its commitment to cross-disciplinary collaboration and grassroots resilience.

Eyal Ben-Isaac MD, Pediatrician. Dr. Ben-Isaac is the former director of the Pediatric Residency Program at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and professor of pediatrics in the Department of Pediatrics at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California. He is Board-Certified in pediatrics and a recent faculty fellow in the Center for Excellence in Teaching at USC. Ben-Isaac has been listed in “Best Doctors in America,” “Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare,” “America’s Top Pediatricians,” and “Top Doctors.”
Guest Speaker:

Sheri Ross, MD., Pediatrician, Director of Medical Outreach Center for Combating Antisemitism.
Dr Ross, founding partner of the first all-female pediatric practice in the Chicago area, practiced primary-care pediatrics for 40 years. After retiring from her practice, Dr. Ross assumed the position of Director of Medical Outreach for the Center for Combating Antisemitism. She has been instrumental in developing an anti-bias training - “Antisemitism is Bad for Medicine,” a program for healthcare workplaces. She served as president of the StandWithUs Midwest board and is a member of their National Board. She has been an active advocate in the fight against antisemitism in medicine. She initiated and is one of the authors of Antisemitism in American Healthcare: A Study of Reported Experiences published in the Journal of General Internal Medicine (December 2024).
