Research

The American Jewish Medical Association partners with leading academic institutions to advance research that is both rigorous and actionable.

At the intersection of scholarship and practice, AJMA serves as a national on-the-ground partner, working alongside universities to study complex challenges within healthcare and translate findings into real-world impact across institutions, training environments, and professional systems.

Through formal collaborations with leading research institutions such as Brandeis University and applied partnerships with institutions like UC San Diego Health, AJMA bridges a critical gap.

We ensure that research is not only methodologically sound but also grounded in the lived realities of healthcare professionals and positioned to inform policy, education, and institutional practice.

Strategic Partnership:
Brandeis University

AJMA maintains a formal research partnership with Brandeis University focused on advancing a first-of-its-kind study:

Understanding and Addressing Antisemitism in American Healthcare.

This collaboration represents a true institutional partnership. Brandeis leads the research design, methodology, and analysis, while AJMA serves as the commissioning nonprofit and an active on-the-ground partner.

In this role, AJMA provides subject-matter expertise, access to a national network of healthcare professionals, stakeholder engagement, and strategic input across the research lifecycle.

The research pillar addresses a critical gap in existing scholarship and institutions across the US.

While discrimination in healthcare has been studied in various forms, antisemitism within clinical, academic, and professional medical environments has not been systematically examined.

This initiative establishes a data-driven foundation to better understand how antisemitism manifests across healthcare systems, including medical schools, teaching hospitals, and professional settings.

This partnership includes large-scale data collection, survey-based research across national samples, and both quantitative and qualitative analysis.

The findings are expected to inform institutional policies, professional standards, and educational approaches within healthcare, moving the field from anecdotal understanding to structured, evidence-based insight.

Importantly, the partnership preserves academic independence while enabling applied relevance.

AJMA contributes field expertise and implementation capacity, while Brandeis ensures methodological rigor and research integrity, creating a model that is both academically credible and practically impactful.

Our Approach

AJMA’s research model is built on partnership and integration.

Academic Rigor

Academic institutions contribute methodological rigor, analytical depth, and scholarly independence.

National Reach & Field Access

AJMA contributes national reach, field access, and real-time insight from within healthcare systems, hospitals, medical schools, and clinical training programs.

Research to Application

Beyond data collection, AJMA helps translate findings into practical tools, policy guidance, and educational frameworks that can be implemented across healthcare systems.

AJMA’s partnership with UC San Diego Health reflects the next stage of research, translation into practice.

Through this collaboration, AJMA is piloting its Antisemitism Curriculum within a structured seminar series for medical students, trainees, and healthcare professionals.

The program is delivered in multiple modules and designed for interactive engagement within clinical and academic environments.

This initiative is not only educational, but also evaluative.

It incorporates pre- and post-training assessments, enabling the collection of data that will support formal research outputs, including peer-reviewed publications and broader academic dissemination.

The UCSD partnership creates a direct feedback loop between research and implementation.

Insights from the field inform curriculum development, while the curriculum itself generates additional data on institutional climate, professional awareness, and educational impact.

This integrated model strengthens both research quality and practical application.

Research in Practice:
UC San Diego Health

From Research
to Impact

AJMA’s research partnerships are designed with a clear objective: to ensure that knowledge leads to action.

Findings generated through collaborations with leading institutions are translated into:

Institutional policy guidance

○ Educational curricula and training programs

○ Professional standards and best practices

○ Strategic engagement with healthcare systems and leadership

This approach reflects AJMA’s core philosophy that research must extend beyond publication.

It should shape how institutions operate, how professionals are trained, and how complex challenges are addressed across the healthcare sector.

A National Platform for Research and Implementation

AJMA’s role within research partnerships is distinct. As a national organization embedded within healthcare systems, AJMA enables access, context, and implementation pathways that are not typically available within academic research alone.

Through ongoing engagement with healthcare professionals and institutions, AJMA helps ensure that research captures emerging trends, reflects current realities, and remains responsive to the evolving challenges within the field.

At the same time, AJMA provides the infrastructure needed to disseminate findings broadly and support their adoption across institutions.

This positions AJMA not only as a research partner, but as a national platform for translating knowledge into measurable impact.

Building on its collaboration with Brandeis University and its applied work with UC San Diego Health, AJMA is expanding its research partnerships across additional academic and healthcare institutions.

Future efforts will include multi-site studies, longitudinal research, and expanded collaboration with universities and national organizations.

These initiatives are designed to deepen understanding, strengthen data-driven approaches, and build a sustained research infrastructure within the healthcare sector.

As this work evolves, AJMA remains focused on a single guiding principle, ensuring that research is not only conducted at the highest level, but also applied in ways that meaningfully improve professional environments, institutional practices, and the broader healthcare system.
